The American Lung Association of Colorado sought to increase national awareness about Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), a condition of two lung diseases that frequently co-exist: chronic bronchitis and emphysema. The two parts stand for bronchitis and emphysema innertwining together as one, while the shape represents the flow of air.
